Dominic Berry’s Wizard comes to Contact

Poetry meets surreal humour in a new show by Dominic Berry which visits the Contact Theatre in Manchester later this month.

When an agoraphobic Wizard shares his world of tea loving carpet goblins and a zombie slaying dish rack with a neighbour from the flat above, three days of magic change both their lives forever. This new show explors how one person handles the modern mental health system.

Inspired by Berry’s own experiences of anxiety attacks and institutional therapies, Wizard combines comedy, fantasy and imaginative theatre in a quest to find magic in even the darkest of places.

Former agoraphobic Dominic Berry is now champion of New York’s Nuyorican Poetry Cafe slam and Manchester Literature Festival’s Superheroes of Slam. He is a regular on the Manchester and national poetry scenes. His own poetry book, “Tomorrow, I Will Go Dancing” was published by Manchester’s Flapjack Press in 2008.

This year has already seen Dominic perform his poetry naked on Channel 4’s My Daughter The Teenage Nudist, followed by a nude performance on stage at East London’s Erotic Award ceremony.

Wizard is written and performed by Dominic Berry with additional material by Dave Viney. The show is directed by Martin ‘Visceral’ Stannage. Produced by Chris Jones, with  art by Ian Wallis and Paul Neads.

Wizard has been produced with a Grants for the Arts/National Lottery award and support from Contact and runs from 28 – 31 March and suitable for ages 14 + .
