2 May 2012

Last night (1 May 2012) over 200 Whatsonstage.com theatregoers joined us for an Outing to see the West End production of Top Hat at the Aldwych Theatre. Nearly 80 years after Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers brought the characters of Jerry Travers and Dale Tremont to the silver screen, Tom Chambers and Summer Strallen step into their dancing shoes in the West End premiere of this timeless Irving Berlin musical.

Jerry Travers (Chambers), the famous American tap dancer, arrives in London to appear in his first West End show. Travers meets the irresistible Dale Tremont (Strallen), the girl of his dreams, and follows her across Europe in an attempt to win her heart. Fantastic performances from the whole cast, particularly Chambers and Strallen, supported by glorious choreography from [Bill Deamer and wonderful design by Hildegard Bechtler, made this an evening to remember.

Following the performance, even though it was rather late, many of the theatregoers remained behind for our post-show meet and greet with the cast. Many of the ensemble as well as Ricardo Afonso, who plays a hilaroius Alberto Beddini, Stephen Boswell (the eccentric Bates) and Tom Chambers and Summer Strallen all joined us and were happy to sign programmes, have photos taken and tell us all about touring the show and preparations for their West End press night next week.

We do hope you enjoyed this evening as much as we did and please do send us your thoughts on the show as well as any photos you have from last night through to feedback@whatsonstage.com. We love to hear from you!
