Alan Bennett is gearing up to return to the National Theatre with his first new play since the multi award-winning international stage and screen success he had with The History Boys, which premiered at the NT in 2004. According to the Daily Mail, Bennett’s new as-yet-untitled piece will premiere in autumn 2009, helmed by NT artistic director Nicholas Hytner, who also directed The History Boys. The new drama concerns the friendship between poet WH Auden and composer Benjamin Britten, who wrote music to accompany several Auden poems.
