London fringe venue Above The Stag is to lose its home in Victoria after only three years of operation.
Artistic director Peter Bull said: “We are commited to continuing Above The Stag’s success, and we therefore urgently need a new home. We would love to hear from property developers, pubs with unused function spaces, or any other property owner who would welcome a resident theatre.”
A farewell evening of drinks and entertainment will be held on the evening of 8 March, comprising songs from previous shows “and maybe a monologue or two.”
Above The Stag is London’s only theatre with a core programme of gay-themed and gay-interest work. Since opening in October 2008 it has produced new musicals, dramas, adaptations, costume dramas, comedies and reviews, as well as a popular annual pantomime.
Bull, who is calling for donations for a ‘Moving On Fund’, added: “We have built something of a family at Above The Stag and that includes our enthusiastic audience. What we have achieved over the past 3 years is too valuable to lose, but we need all the help we can get to make sure we find a new home.”
