Currently appearing in ”The Man Jesus”, Callow shares some of his favourite things with us
Matthew Hurt's one man play The Man Jesus, starring Simon Callow, is coming to the West End later this year as part of a UK tour.
The show, which premiered at Belfast's Lyric Theatre last year, looks at key moments in the life of Jesus, with Callow delivering a "moving account of biblical stories including the revival of Lazarus, the wedding at Cana and the journey to Jerusalem."
We caught up with Simon to find out a few of his favourite things…
What/who is your favourite…
Film?
Chimes at Midnight – Welles' masterpiece, radical and profoundly Shakespearean.
Place to relax in London?
Hampstead Heath, where I take the dogs and see the seasons change, week by week, against a backdrop of the ever-morphing London skyline.
Restaurant?
Driftwood in Cornwall. Sublime food, staggering views and a real sense of otherness: Cornwall is quite mythic.
Holiday destination?
Amalfi: the sea, the cliffs, the food, the glamour.
Play/Musical that you have seen?
Henry IV, because all human life is there, a titanic panorama of Britain.
Theatre to visit?
Bayreuth. Austere, almost holy, with Wagner's turbulent master/monsterworks swarming across that fabulous stage.
Theatre to work in?
Harold Pinter: not small, but intimate, with a perfect acoustic that means I can murmur lines to someone in the back row of the gods.
