Stephen Schwartz and John Caird‘s Bible-inspired musical Children of Eden was revived for one night only last night (29 January 2012) in a “spectacular star-studded charity gala” at the Prince of Wales Theatre.

The gala was staged to raise awareness of the chronic and debilitating condition, Crohn’s disease and all proceeds will be donated to Crohn’s and Colitis UK.

The concert, performed by a company of 75, featured stars drawn from the West End and TV including Louise Dearman, Brenda Edwards, Gareth Gates, Russell Grant, Lauren Samuels, Aaron Sidwell, Anton Stephans, Oliver Thornton, John Wilding, Waylon Jacobs, Tom Pearce, Jamie Papanicolaou, Daniella Bowen and Daisy Tonge. The evening was closed by special guest Kerry Ellis.

Children of Eden was developed through the RSC and had its world premiere at the Prince Edward Theatre in January 1991, but closed after only four months. Centring on the figures of Adam, Eve and Noah, Children of Eden is billed as a “frank, heartfelt and often humorous examination of the age-old conflict between parents and children”.

Children of Eden was directed by Drew Baker with musical supervision and direction by James Draisey and design by Ben Rogers. It was produced by Tony Green in association with Katy Lipson for Aria Entertainment.
