American writer Katori Hall‘s two-hander The Mountaintop transferred to Trafalgar Studios last night (20 July 2009, previews from 16 July) following its acclaimed premiere at Theatre503 last month, replete with its cast of David Harewood and Lorraine Burroughs (See News, 7 July 2009).

The Mountaintop
is set on 3 April 1968, the night before Martin Luther King’s assassination, in room 306
of Memphis’ Lorraine Motel to which the civil rights leader had retired
after giving his famous “I have been to the mountaintop” speech to a
massive church congregation. When room service is delivered by a
mysterious young woman, King is forced to confront his past, as well as
his legacy to his people.
