Last night’s packed house at the Garrick was boosted by over 180 Whatsonstage.com theatregoers, who enjoyed a spirited performance of When We Are Married from the high calibre cast.

Three ‘happy’ couples are thrown into uproar by the revelation that 25 years of marriage could be null and void, and everyone from the cook (Lynda Baron) to the local paper’s photographer (Roy Hudd) contribute their penny’s worth to the ensuing drama.

Thirteen years since the last production, it was the right time for Priestley’s comedy to be revived, according to Maureen Lipman (who plays Clara Soppitt, one of the three shocked wives) at the Q&A.

She was joined onstage by the entire cast, along with director Christopher Luscombe, to answer questions from the audience after the show. Christopher revealed that When We Are Married is one of his favourite six comedies, while the actors mused on their on stage relationships, and how they maintained such natural chemistry. Roy Hudd’s bottomless treasure trove of tales were greatly appreciated by the audience, one of whom had been jokingly kissed by the actor (in lieu of his wife), as you’ll discover in the podcast below.
