Hot off the back of the heatwave, there’s nowhere better to cool down than inside a theatre.
Here are our top picks of shows opening this month, with other highlights being the West End transfer of Cyrano de Bergerac with Adrian Lester and the Old Vic’s hit revival of Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia.

Joel Harper-Jackson is doing it his way as the legendary Frank Sinatra in this West End transfer of the new musical. Set on New Year’s Eve 1942, the show follows Sinatra as he prepares to walk onto the stage of the Paramount Theatre in New York, a moment that propels him into national fame. Expect more than 20 of his hits when you fly to the Aldywch Theatre this summer.

Patrick Marber directs an all-female take on David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross, which will star Rosa Salazar as Roma and Olivier Award-winning actress Indira Varma as Levene. For those unfamiliar, the Pulitzer Prize-winning piece follows a group of real estate agents competing in a sales contest, where only the top performers are rewarded and the rest face dismissal.

Tamzin Outhwaite will reprise her role of Beverly in Mike Leigh’s cult classic about a seemingly ordinary neighbourly gathering that spirals. Directed by Nadia Fall, the revival was first staged at Stratford East in 2024, where it received a favourable review from our WhatsOnStage critic, and it will later play in the West End.
Tour opens at Malvern Theatres on 6 June

This new romcom, which was one of last year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe highlights, presents Earth and Humanity as lovers, exploring the climate crisis as a relationship on the brink of collapse. Danielle Steers is now joined by Morgan Gregory as the musical returns to London, this time to The Other Palace.

Matthew Bourne’s award-winning dance thriller is touring for the first time in over ten years. Set in a 1960s garage diner, the dance piece is loosely based on Bizet’s popular opera Carmen and is inspired by vintage movie film noir classics.
Tour starts at Curve, Leicester, on 15 June

An iconic date: 4 December, 1956. Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley came together at Sun Records in Memphis for an impromptu jam session that would go on to become a defining moment in rock ‘n’ roll history. Relive it as the hit musical returns to the Barn in Cirencester!

Golden Globe winner Sandra Oh will make her National Theatre debut in Martin Crimp’s adaptation of the Molière classic! Written in contemporary verse, with the central figure of Alceste reimagined, in this version, the story centres on Alice, a novelist who rejects what she sees as empty expressions of kindness and respect.

It’s a musical! A musical! After its WhatsOnStage Award-winning concert, Something Rotten will receive its fully-staged UK premiere. Jason Manford returns as Nick Bottom, with Richard Fleeshman as William Shakespeare and Marisha Wallace as Bea. Egg-cellent.

“Walk Like a Man” right up to your local theatre and start “Beggin’” for a ticket to the new 20th anniversary tour of smash-hit jukebox musical Jersey Boys. This cast for all seasons features Luke Baker as Frankie Valli, with Carlo Boumouglbay as Tommy DeVito, Lewis Kennedy as Nick Massi and Toby Miles as Bob Gaudio, while Ellis Kirk will be the alternate Frankie Valli.
Tour opens at the New Wimbledon Theatre on 17 June

Marking the 30th anniversary of the show, a new revival arrives at Leeds Playhouse. Set in the 1990s, the play follows the Grimley brass band as the community faces the closure of its colliery. It is adapted for the stage by Paul Allen, and this production will feature live music performed by Horbury Victoria Brass Band and Wakefield Metropolitan Brass Band.

The world premiere of Ben Ockrent’s new play sees four siblings reuniting at their recently deceased mother’s home to divide her belongings, only for a long-buried family secret to emerge. It is directed by Michael Longhurst.

A holy revival will take place in the West End this summer – and it is extending into autumn! Sam Ryder will be making his stage debut in Tim Sheader’s Jesus Christ Superstar at The London Palladium, alongside a revolving cast of Herods. That’s the buzz!

Sheffield Theatre’s Elizabeth Newman is making the city a summer holiday destination! Based on the 1960s film, the piece will be directed by Newman with Ben Occhipinti, and the venue promises that the whole city will get to enjoy the beach. Casting has been announced.

If you were to set sail to Leicestershire, you’d find an open-air revival of Anything Goes tapping under the stars, led by Emily-Mae Walker and Richard Carson! Cole Porter’s musical features his classic songs and follows the comedic misunderstandings of nightclub singer Reno Sweeney and a cast of passengers set aboard the SS American.
