Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to run at London Palladium in 2019

A brand new production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, celebrating the piece's 50th anniversary, will run at the London Palladium in summer 2019.

The hit musical, which has original lyrics and composition by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, is based on the story of Joseph's coat of many colours from the Book of Genesis. After being released as a concept album in 1969, it was the first Lloyd Webber and Rice musical to be performed publicly, receiving its professional premiere at the Edinburgh International Festival in 1972, produced by the Young Vic Theatre Company. It was adapted into a direct-to-video film in 1999, with Donny Osmond in the titular role.

The piece features numbers such as "Close Every Door", "Benjamin Calypso" and "Any Dream Will Do". It was last in the West End in 2007, starring winner of the Any Dream Will Do TV show Lee Mead. It ran until 2009. Bill Kenwright directed a touring production from 2016, with Joe McElderry taking on the lead role.

The production will run for a strictly limited run from 26 June to 8 September, with tickets from £20 (and £10 for previews).

Casting and an entirely new creative team for the London Palladium production are to be confirmed.

Tickets for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat go on sale via WhatsOnStage on Friday 7 December.
