We chat to the cast and guests at the opening night of ”The King and I” in the West End
Bartlett Sher's Tony Award-winning production of The King and I officially opened at the London Palladium last night and we were on hand to chat with cast members and guests at the after party.
The production, which premiered at the Lincoln Center in New York, comes to the London Palladium, where it runs until September. The cast features Tony Award-winner Kelli O'Hara as Anna and Ken Watanabe as the King of Siam. It also stars Naoko Mori, Dean John-Wilson and Na-Young Jeon.
In her review for WhatsOnStage, Daisy Bowie-Sell said: "Bartlett Sher's glorious revival… waltzes glamorously across the huge Palladium stage with effortless grace."
Set in 1860s Bangkok, the piece tells the story of an unexpected romance between a British schoolteacher and the King of Siam. Its classic songs include "Whistle a Happy Tune", "Getting to Know You" and "Shall We Dance".
Directed by Sher, the show has design by Michael Yeargan, costumes by Catherine Zuber, lighting by Donald Holder, sound by Scott Lehrer, choreography by Christopher Gattelli, musical supervision by Ted Sperling and musical direction by Stephen Ridley.
