Hedwig and the Angry Inch heading for the West End?

Tony Award-winning musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch could be the next Broadway show in line for a trip across the pond.

The musical's author (and Hedwig originator) John Cameron Mitchell revealed at last night's Tony Awards that the show is "definitely coming to the West End", and the creative team are "trying to get the right person" to play the title role.

Collecting a special award at last night's ceremony, Mitchell added that a Hedwig sequel is "still bubbling" but would be a while before coming to fruition.

Telling the story of a genderqueer East German rock musician, Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Broadway has had stars including Neil Patrick Harris, Michael C Hall and Darren Criss. Taye Diggs will be taking over as Hedwig in July.

Producers of Fun Home, which won five awards at Radio City Music Hall yesterday, have also stated their desire for a West End transfer of the musical, although director Sam Gold couldn't "confirm or deny" that a move is in the works.
