Emilia to hold parent and baby performance in the West End

Emilia is to hold a performance specifically for parents and babies.

The show, which transferred from Shakespeare's Globe to the West End last week, will take place on April 24 at the Vaudeville Theatre.

The matinee performance is called Let Them Roar and will be held exclusively for parents and carers with babies under 12 months old, with breast and bottle-fed babies all able to attend.

The performance came about following a tweet by a mother who wanted to see the show but could not due to the show's running time and the fact she was still breastfeeding.

Producers Eleanor Lloyd and Nica Burns believe it may be the first time a parent and baby performance has been set up in the West End.

Emilia is Morgan Lloyd Malcolm's new work, which tells the story of Emilia Bassano, Renaissance poet, polemicist and contemporary of Shakespeare. Some believe she is the 'dark lady' of the sonnets. The play opened at Shakespeare's Globe in August 2018, and was called 'an outright feminist triumph' by WhatsOnStage.

There have been rumours of a screen adaptation, to be produced by Manon Ardisson and Chiara Ventura.
