As previously tipped, the final production in Timothy Sheader‘s 2011 season will make its long-rumoured transfer shortly after completing its run at the Open Air this Saturday (10 September 2011).
Tickets for Crazy for You at the Novello Theatre go on sale tomorrow (9 September 2011) with bookings initially being taken until 28 July 2012.
The entire cast of the Open Air production, including Harriet Thorpe, David Burt, Sean Palmer, Clare Foster, Kim Medcalf and Michael McKell, will transfer to the Novello.
With a book by Ken Ludwig, Crazy for You includes a number of 1930s Gershwin standards such as “I Got Rhythm”, “Someone To Watch Over Me”, “Embraceable You” and “Nice Work If You Can Get It”.
The 1992 Broadway production transferred to the West End a year later, with the show gaining both a Tony and an Olivier Award for Best New Musical.
The Open Air’s production reunites the artistic director Timothy Sheader with the multi-award winning creative team behind last year’s Hello, Dolly! – choreographer Stephen Mear and designer Peter McKintosh. Musical director of Into the Woods, Gareth Valentine also returns. Lighting design is by Tim Mitchell. The West End transfer is produced by Mark Goucher, Adam Spiegel and William Village.
Crazy for You follows Stiles and Drewe musical Betty Blue Eyes into the West End’s Novello Theatre. Impresario Cameron Mackintosh‘s first new musical production in over a decade, Betty Blue Eyes plays its last performance on 24 September 2011 after a run of six months. The musical comedy, based on Alan Bennett‘s A Private Function, had been booking until 28 January 2012.
