Photos have been released offering a first look at Wise Children at the Old Vic, which opens next week and is the first production for director Emma Rice's new company, also called Wise Children.

Based on Angela Carter's novel, also called Wise Children, the piece follows twin chorus girls from Brixton, Nora and Dora, who celebrate their 70th birthday together on 23 April – the same day as William Shakespeare's birthday. It is directed and penned by Rice.

The show will embark on a UK tour after it opens at the Old Vic, visiting cities including Oxford, Cambridge, Bristol, York and Coventry.

Wise Children features designs by Vicki Mortimer, lighting by Malcolm Rippeth, sound and video by Simon Baker, and puppetry by Lyndie Wright. It is the first show in the Old Vic's newest season, which will feature a new revival of All My Sons starring Sally Field and Bill Pullman, and a new production of The American Clock.
