SNL UK and Cynthia Erivo parody Wicked with Nollywood sketch

Cynthia Erivo hosted Saturday Night Live UK last night, featuring a parody sketch titled “Nigerian Wicked.”

Rather than repeating her screen portrayal of Elphaba, Erivo appeared as Glinda opposite cast member Ayoade Bamgboye, who took on the role of Elphaba. Styled as a Nollywood film trailer from the fictional Holy Ghost Productions, the sketch reinterpreted key moments from the musical within the tropes of Nigerian cinema.

The pair are joined by the Wizard, played by Hammed Animashaun, in the Emerald White Emerald city, part of LagOz. You can watch it here:

The segment formed part of Erivo’s hosting duties on the live sketch show, broadcast on Sky and NOW, with musical guest Blossoms performing on the episode.

An array of theatre stars play vital roles in the show – including Animashaun, George Fouracres, Freddie Meredith and Annabel Marlow.
