Unicorn Theatre announces new season

The Unicorn Theatre have announced 18 new productions for the Autumn season and beyond, with highlights including a reimagining of Ted Hughes' The Iron Man, and the return of Tim Crouch’s Adler & Gibb.

The new season includes seven new Unicorn productions;

• Lee Lyford (The Polar Bears Go Up) returns to direct The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson (13 September to 20 November)
• Valentina Ceschi and Thomas Eccleshare – the team behind last year's hit The Snow Child – return with Jason and the Argonauts (24 September – 20 October)
• Justin Audibert directs Holger Schober's My Mother Medea (17 October to 25 November)
• Following his production of Something Very Far Away, Matthew Robins returns to the Unicorn to recreate the world of The Iron Man (25 January to 5 March)
• Purni Morell directs Ignace Cornelissen's The Hunting Lodge (31 January to 5 March)
• The Unicorn and Made in China present Double Double Act (20 June to 9 July)
• Baby Show created and directed by Sarah Argent will play throughout the year for children 6-18 months old

Tim Crouch returns with two productions; Adler and Gibb (30 August to 3 September), which premiered at the Royal Court in 2014, and Jeramee, Hartleby and Ooglemore runs from 12 March to 9 April 2017 following its sell out success last year.

Other visiting productions include Shôn Dale-Jones' The Duke, which runs on various dates between September and November and pledges every penny of Box Office income to the Save the Children Refugee Appeal. Sally Cookson directs Boing! (30 November to 31 December), and Jetse Batelaan presents The Man Who Knows It All from 30 May to 4 June 2017.

Returning Unicorn productions include Nancy Harris and Marc Teitler's Baddies: The Musical, and The Velveteen Rabbit (17 March to 15 April).

Talking today about the new season, Purni Morell, artistic director of the Unicorn said: "I think the point of theatre is to bring people together in a room and look collectively at ourselves, each other and the world we’ve created and are creating.

"At the Unicorn, everything we do is in service of giving children that space… No matter what age, everyone needs to be heard, and ideally understood… I’m very proud to announce this season in service of giving our audience our side of the conversation and to hear what they reply."
