Rose Theatre Kingston revives Michael Frayn’s Here

With Noises Off receiving an acclaimed revival at the Old Vic and a dedicated season of his work coming up at Sheffield Theatres, it appears playwright Michael Frayn is entering something of a purple patch.

And now the Rose Theatre, Kingston has announced a new revival of Frayn’s 1993 play Here, which is famously constructed entirely in the present tense with no reference to past events.

It centres on young couple Phil and Cath who share a small studio flat where they begin to construct their life together. But how will they decide anything when the other person keeps disagreeing, and when the woman downstairs keeps dumping the left-over remains of her own life on them?

Here was first seen at the Donmar Warehouse in 1993, when it starred Iain Glen and Teresa Banham.

Running at the Rose from 27 April to 17 May 2012 (previews from 19 April), the new production will be directed by Lisa Spirling, whose recent directing credits include Hundreds and Thousands (Soho Theatre Upstairs), Terminal Four Play (Theatre503, Latitude Festival), Cotton Wool (Theatre503) and sketch comedy group Idiots of Ants (Edinburgh Fringe and on tour).

It’s preceded at the Rose by The Lady from the Sea, which runs from 23 February to 17 March 2012 starring Joely Richardson.
