Robert Lindsay will make his pantomime debut this Christmas in Richmond.

The actor, known for his roles in My Family as well as recently at the Hampstead Theatre in Prism, will portray the evil Captain Hook in the pantomime, which opens on 8 December. The multi-Olivier Award and Tony Award winner has previosuly performed alongside the likes of Gielgud, Olivier and Joanna Lumley.

Richmond Theatre's theatre director Brendan Riding said: "It's sure to be this panto season's must-see turn, with Robert frightening and delighting in equal measure!"

Further casting for the production is to be announced. Last year's pantomime featured veteran performer Christopher Biggins as Widow Twankey, with WhatsOnStage critic Sarah Crompton saying "anyone who does like pantomime should go to Richmond post-haste".

Other big names making their pantomime debuts this Christmas include Paul Merton and Dawn French.
