The show will have a third West End season this autumn

My Son’s A Queer (But What Can You Do?) will return to the West End for a limited run.
Written and performed by Rob Madge and directed by Luke Sheppard, the show first premiered at the Turbine Theatre in 2021 before transferring to the Edinburgh Festival, touring the UK, and playing in the West End and New York.
It now returns for what is billed as a final run of 23 performances at the Apollo Theatre from 16 September to 3 October 2026, following previous runs at the Garrick Theatre and Ambassadors Theatre, as well as a spell in New York.
The autobiographical piece centres on Madge’s childhood, including an attempt at age 12 to stage a Disney parade at home for their grandmother, with family members drafted into the production. As Madge took on roles including Mary Poppins, Ariel, Mickey Mouse and Belle, their father attempted to run the show behind the scenes, while their mother misidentified characters and technical mishaps disrupted proceedings.
Producer Paul Taylor-Mills said the production represents “the epitome of everything I dreamed theatre could be”, describing it as a story rooted in hope and acceptance and reflecting on its journey from an initial idea shared during lockdown to runs in London and New York.
The show has received multiple awards, including the WhatsOnStage Award for Best Off-West End Production, as well as Attitude and Stage Debut Awards, and was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play.
