The new artwork for Rent in the West End

Rent will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a new revival in the West End.

Rent, created by Jonathan Larson, premiered Off-Broadway in 1996 before transferring to Broadway, where it became a defining rock musical of its era, winning the Pulitzer Prize and multiple Tony Awards.

Inspired by La Bohème, it follows a group of young artists in New York’s East Village struggling with poverty, creativity, relationships, and the AIDS crisis.

So far, very little is known about the run beyond the fact it is coming this autumn to London. The teaser was shared by Sonia Friedman Productions and Chris Harper Productions, so we expect they are involved.

We may be clutching at straws, but the artwork does bear some resemblance to the five-star production seen at the Hope Mill Theatre in 2020 and 2021, directed by the multi-award-winning Luke Sheppard, one of the minds behind the incredibly successful Paddington The Musical.

We expect ironclad details will be revealed soon.
