The cast of Avenue Q were celebrating the approach of their first holiday in three years with an open top bus ride through the capital today (24 March 2009). The show closes at the Noel Coward theatre on Saturday (28 March 2009), before reopening at its new home the Gielgud on 1 June (See News, 9 Mar 2009).

To mark the occasion, cast members including Maria Omakinwa, Tom Parsons, Simon Gorton, Rachel Jerram, Mark Goldthorp, Julie Atherton and Daniel Boys took their furry alter-egos on a tour of central London, posing for snaps along the way with our Whatsonstage.com photographer Dan Wooller.

Billed as an adult version of Sesame Street, Avenue Q began its life at Off-Broadway’s Vineyard Theatre before transferring in July 2003 to Broadway’s Golden Theatre, where it went on to win three 2004 Tony Awards including Best Musical. It’s been running at the Noel Coward since 28 June 2006 (previews from 1 June).
