Girls Aloud singer Kimberley Walsh last night (5 October 2011) played her first performance as Princess Fiona in the Theatre Royal Drury Lane production of Shrek The Musical.

Walsh takes over from Amanda Holden who announced in August she is pregnant. Holden, who originated the role in the West End, played her final performance on 3 October 2011, two months earlier than planned.

Walsh joins cast members Nigel Lindsay as the lonely ogre, alongside Nigel Harman as Lord Farquaad and Richard Blackwood as Donkey in Jason Moore and Rob Ashford‘s staging of the 2001 DreamWorks’ animation.

Walsh, who is a member of Girls Aloud, one of the UK’s most successful pop groups, was joined by band-mates Cheryl Cole and Nicola Roberts backstage at her first performance.
