The actor playing Chip in On the Town has been forced to withdraw from the production, after fracturing his foot in previews.

Fred Haig was due to open in Drew McOnie's production this week, but was forced to pull out after the injury.

He will be replaced by his understudy Jacob Maynard, who comes out of the ensemble permanently to play the role of Chip for the rest of the show's run.

Maynard has previously appeared in Guys and Dolls, Love Me Tender and Five Guys Named Moe.

The opening night was postponed from 25 May to 31 May as a result of the re-casting and bad weather.

On The Town stars Danny Mac as Gabey, Samuel Edwards as Ozzie and Lizzy Connolly as Hildy and is the first show in the Open Air Theatre's 2017 summer season.

The musical follows three sailors who have docked in New York for 24 hours.

On the Town runs at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre until 1 July.
