Drew McOnie's production of On the Town at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre has postponed its press night due to the incapacity of one of the lead performers.

A statement released by the show said: "Whilst there is an understudy for the role, this combined with poor weather conditions during technical rehearsals, means that the production has had to make the difficult decision to delay the press performances."

The show, which was due to officially open on Thursday 25 May, will now hold press performances on 30 and 31 May, with reviews embargoed until 11pm on 31 May 2017. The performances leading up to these dates will still go ahead as previews.

Directed and choreographed by McOnie, the musical is about three sailors on a 24-hour shore leave in New York City. With a score by Leonard Bernstein, it was first seen on Broadway in 1944 before being made into a film five years later.

The cast includes Danny Mac (Hollyoaks, Wicked), Lizzy Connolly (The Wild Party) and Maggie Steed.

On the Town runs at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre until 1 July.
