The Comedy About Spies will embark on its first UK tour in 2027, visiting 17 venues following two West End runs.

The play first opened at the Noël Coward Theatre in April 2025 before returning to the West End for an eight-week season at the Adelphi Theatre earlier this year. It won the 2026 WhatsOnStage Award for Best New Play and was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best New Entertainment or Comedy Play.

Set in the 1960s, the story follows a rogue British agent who steals plans for a top-secret weapon. CIA and KGB spies descend on London’s Piccadilly Hotel in pursuit of the file, while a young couple and an actor hoping to land a role in a spy film become caught up in the mission.

The Mischief production, written by Henry Lewis and Henry Shields and directed by Matt DiCarlo, will open at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre on 12 June 2027 before visiting a further 16 venues, with the tour concluding at Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre on 9 October.

The creative team includes set designer David Farley, costume designer Deborah Andrews, movement director Shelley Maxwell, lighting designer Johanna Town, sound designer and composer Jon Fiber for Jollygoodtunes, and casting directors Lucy Jenkins and Sooki McShane for Jenkins McShane Casting. Casting for the tour is to be announced.

Henry Lewis said: “We are so excited for The Comedy About Spies to head out on tour and entertain audiences up and down the UK. We’re always looking to add new venues, so if you have a large front room please do get in touch.”

The tour will open at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre from 12 to 19 June 2027, before visiting The Lowry in Salford (23 to 26 June), Theatre Royal Plymouth (29 June to 3 July), Birmingham Hippodrome (6 to 10 July), Theatre Royal Glasgow (13 to 17 July), Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff (20 to 24 July), Festival Theatre in Edinburgh (27 to 31 July), Theatre Royal Newcastle (3 to 7 August), Bristol Hippodrome (10 to 14 August), Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury (17 to 21 August), Milton Keynes Theatre (24 to 28 August), Theatre Royal Nottingham (31 August to 4 September), Theatre Royal Norwich (7 to 11 September), Leeds Grand Theatre (14 to 18 September), Lyceum Theatre in Sheffield (21 to 25 September), New Wimbledon Theatre (28 September to 2 October) and Mayflower Theatre in Southampton (5 to 9 October).
