Marti Webb is returning to the role originally created for her in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Don Black’s solo song cycle, Tell Me on a Sunday, for the final weeks of the show’s run at the Gielgud Theatre where Denise van Outen is currently singing the part.
Webb, who first performed the role in a TV version and was subsequently seen in the original stage production at the Palace Theatre in 1982 (where it was paired with Lloyd Webber’s Variations to comprise a double-bill called Song and Dance), will take over from 13 January 2004.
Webb has been most recently seen as the alternate Mrs Meers to Maureen Lipman in Thoroughly Modern Millie, and before that appeared as Mrs Anna in a tour of The King and I. In a long musical career that has stretched from the 1961 West End production of Stop the World I Want to Get Off to taking over from Elaine Paige in the title role of Evita, she has now come full-circle to the role for which she first achieved solo acclaim.
