Opera North’s Ruddigore has been garnering praise, in advance of playing at the Lowry. Conductor John Wilson gives us his five reasons why you should go along.

1. Ruddigore is a rarely-staged
masterpiece, written by Gilbert and Sullivan at the height of their
powers, just after the huge success of The Mikado.  Google the plot –
it’s too complicated to go into here …!

2. This all singing, all dancing production by Opera North is
BRILLIANTLY directed by Jo Davies and costumes and scenery are out of
this world.

3. In the second act a gallery of portraits magically come to life – a
hugely difficult thing to pull off on stage (and one of the main
reasons Ruddigore isn’t often staged).  This amazing scene alone is
worth the price of a ticket.

4. The young and hugely-talented cast is all first rate, as are the brilliant Opera North chorus and orchestra.

5. It’s VERY funny …

Ruddigore is at the Lowry on Wed 24 and Sat 27 February. For more details, click here.
