Horse+Bamboo bring their perfect puppetry back to the Royal Exchange Theatre Studio space this Christmas – with Red Riding Hood – offering audiences an alternative to the traditional panto. Here, the company give us five more reasons why you should go along.

1. Previous Horse+Bamboo shows at the Royal Exchange have sold out!

Past trips to the Exchange include In The Shadow Of Trees, Little Leap Forward and Storm In a Teacup, and brilliantly each show has sold out! Looking at sales for Red Riding Hood, we’re already at a capacity of 66% full, and 8 out of the 24 shows have less than 10 seats available! We’re very hopeful this will be another successful sell-out!

2. It’s a very well-known story the ‘girl and the wolf’
However, even though most people know the story, that doesn’t mean we won’t be throwing a few surprises along the way. Especially with the use of our dramatic soundscape and specially created animation!

3. It’s perfect for the whole family to enjoy at Christmas
It’s something different to the usual pantomimes everyone has seen, but it’s still a gorgeous tale for everyone aged 4+ to enjoy during the festive period. We plan to create a perfect blend of silliness and spookiness with our exquisite visuals. And not just on stage, but as audiences are entering The Studio foyer – we want to create a magical world that grabs you straight away!

4. We’re renowned for our inventive and delightful use of puppetry and masks
We’ve been using puppetry and masks to recreate stories for over 30 years now and have been awarded a Best Special Entertainment Theatre Award for it! So as well as using spoken word, we also want to evoke the powers of non-verbal communication and enhance the emotion used in facial expressions and body language to really ignite audiences’ imagination and wonder. It’s also a brilliant way to draw out a lot of the comedy and fun within our story-telling

5. We’ve had brilliant acclaim from critics, audiences, and even other award-winning story-tellers!
“Fascinating from beginning to end. Remarkable masks – brilliant! A magical tale well told!” (Audience member / Parent)

Red Riding Hood runs at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester from 14 -31 December, with various morning and evening performances. It’s suitable for everyone aged 4+ and tickets are £10 (adults), £7 (concessions) and just £4 for Under 13s.
