Exciting news from the WhatsOnStage Award-winning musical
Award-winning musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie has announced the initial casting for its second UK and Ireland tour as well as an extended London season.
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie tells the story of sixteen-year-old Jamie New, who lives on a council estate in Sheffield and feels like he doesn’t quite fit in. Despite his fears about the future, Jamie dreams of being a sensation. With the support of his friends and his loving mother, he overcomes obstacles and emerges into the spotlight.
After a successful three-year residency in London’s West End and a sold-out UK and Ireland tour, the show will now open at The Lowry on 7 September 2023 before traveling to other cities across the UK.
Featuring an original score of catchy pop tunes by Dan Gillespie Sells, lead singer-songwriter of The Feeling, and a book by writer Tom MacRae, the production is choreographed by Kate Prince and directed by Matt Ryan from original direction by Jonathan Butterell. The design is by Anna Fleischle, while lighting design is provided by Lucy Carter, with sound design by Paul Groothuis. Video design is handled by Luke Halls, and casting by Will Burton. Theo Jamieson will serve as the musical supervisor.
Ivano Turco, who has starred in productions such as Get Up, Stand Up! and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella, will take on the lead role of Jamie New, with Rebecca McKinnis (Dear Evan Hansen) returning as Margaret New, alongside Shobna Gulati, who also starred in the film adaptation of the show, as Ray, with Talia Palamathanan (who also appeared in the ensemble for the film) as Pritti.
John Partridge, known for his roles in Eastenders, La Cage Aux Folles, and A Chorus Line, will play the role of Hugo/Loco Chanelle from 7 September until 11 November 2023 and from 16 January until 16 March. Further casting will be announced at a later date.
Producer Nica Burns expressed delight at the new cast, stating that they are “talented stars” who will make an excellent addition to the cast. Burns thanked audiences for their support and added that the show will continue to spread joy and entertainment throughout the UK.
In addition, the show will play at the Peacock Theatre in London, with a season from Monday 5 February to Saturday 16 March.
