Bryony Lavery adapts Graham Greene’s classic novel for the UK stage
Photos have been released showing Pilot Theatre's new UK tour of Graham Greene's Brighton Rock, adapted by Bryony Lavery.
Directed by Pilot Theatre artistic director Esther Richardson, the piece follows criminal gang member Pinkie as he begins a destructive relationship with Brighton waitress Rose. Pursued and hunted, Pinkie and his gang try to evade detection in the coastal town.
The piece stars Sarah Middleton (The Hypocrite) as Rose and Jacob James Beswick (People, Places and Things) as Pinkie.
Speaking about the piece, Lavery described it as "one of the best depictions of teenage spirit" with a sadomasochistic relationship at its heart. Lavery's play Frozen is also currently running in the West End.
Brighton Rock runs at York Theatre Royal until 3 March and then tours to Brighton, Colchester, Hull, Cheltenham, Winchester, Watford, Birmingham, Newcastle, Mold, Derby and Salford.
