The Laurence Olivier Awards will be broadcast live online this year for the first time. The ceremony, which takes place at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Sunday 21 March, will be hosted by actor Anthony Head (currently appearing in Six Degrees of Separation at the Old Vic) and feature performances from a range of nominated shows.

As previously reported (See The Goss, 15 Jan 2010), this year the Oliviers includes a category voted for by the public – the Audience Award for Most Popular Show – which features a shortlist of Billy Elliot The Musical, The Phantom of the Opera, War Horse, We Will Rock You and Wicked.

The live streaming will start at 6.30pm on the day via a player on the Laurence Olivier Awards website. Philippa Salvoni, Head of Publishing at The Society of London Theatre, commented: “We are delighted that visitors to our website will be able to enjoy the atmosphere and glamour of this prestigious event.”
