Richard Bean’s stage adaptation of David Mamet’s 1987 film House of Games premiered last night (15 September 2010, previews from 9 September) at the Almeida Theatre, where it continues until 6 November with a cast led by Nancy Carroll and American Michael Landes.

Carroll plays the role of psychoanalyst Margaret Ford, who attempts to cure her patient Mike of his gambling addiction by accompanying him to a game in a bar. The original low-budget thriller starred Joe Mantegna as Mike and Mamet’s own wife, Lindsay Crouse, as Margaret.
In the stage version Landes and Carroll, who recently drew critical acclaim for her role in After the Dance at the National, are joined in the cast by Amanda Drew, Peter De Jersey, John Marquez, Trevor Cooper, Dermot Crowley and Al Weaver.
Lindsay Posner, who is well known for his previous work with Mamet plays, directs. Among the opening night attendees were actors including Paul Keating, Meera Syal, Milli Bhatia, Jenny Jules, Dimitri Leonidas, Jo Stone-Fewings and Carroll’s After the Dance co-star Benedict Cumberbatch.
