Lily and Alfie Allen were on hand last night (17 November 2008, previews from 7 November) at the Theatre Royal Haymarket to see their father Keith Allen make his West End debut in Treasure Island, but by the time Allen Snr had managed to wrestle out of the wooden leg he wears as pirate Long John Silver, Allens Jnr had escaped to an after-after party at the Groucho Club.

Though the press night occurred on a Monday, not many more performances of the new stage adaptation will. Producers have announced that, from 7 December 2008, 3.00pm Sunday matinees will be introduced, replacing Monday evenings. The schedule change is “in response to a large demand from parents wanting to take their children to see” the show, which has special discounts for children’s tickets. The production’s limited Christmas season continues until 28 February 2009.
