US actors Ali MacGraw and Ryan O'Neal will star in a UK tour of AR Gurney's play Love Letters.

The piece ran on Broadway and toured the US and is now transferring to the Theatre Royal Bath in September 2017, before heading out on a twelve-week tour.

Love Letters is about a letter-writing romance between two characters from age seven for 50 years. The production is directed by Greg Mosher.

The piece won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and first opened in 1988. In the play, the two characters sit round a table and read out letters they have written to each other over the years. Stars including Kathleen Turner and John Rubinstein, and Linda Gray and Larry Hagman have previously performed in the piece.

MacGraw and O'Neal are regulars on the big screen with MacGraw starring in Love Story, The Getaway and Just Tell Me What You Want, and O'Neal in Love Story, The Thief Who Came to Dinner and Barry Lyndon.

Love Letters runs at Theatre Royal Bath between 11 and 16 September before touring the UK.
