Following a run at the Hope Mill Theatre and in London's Vaults, the 50th-anniversary production of the classic musical Hair will embark on a new UK tour next year.

Directed by Jonathan O'Boyle (Aspects of Love, Pippin), the recent revival won the WhatsOnStage Award for Best Off-West End Production.

The tour will open at the New Wimbledon Theatre on 22 March before visiting Cheltenham, Manchester, Cardiff, Plymouth, Birmingham, Sunderland, Dartford, Liverpool, Portsmouth, Edinburgh, Oxford, Sheffield, Brighton and Milton Keynes, with further dates to be announced.

The musical, which is written by Gerome Ragni, James Rado and Galt MacDermot, is known for its Grammy-winning score with numbers such as "Aquarius", "Let the Sun Shine In", "I Got Life" and "Good Morning Starshine".

Hair has musical direction by Gareth Bretherton, choreography by William Whelton, design by Maeve Black, lighting design by Ben M Rogers and sound design by Calum Robinson. Casting for the tour is to be announced.

In his review of the Vaults production, Alun Hood said "the singing throughout is exceptional, and William Whelton's inventive choreography achieves the impressive feat of looking simultaneously sharp and spontaneous."
