Chichester Festival has become one of the biggest providers of West End transfers in recent years under the artistic directorship of Jonathan Church. A glance round the London landscape proves the point: the current productions of Yes, Prime Minister, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead and Pygmalion and next month’s arrival of Top Girls are originated in Chichester. And who would bet against Chichester’s upcoming productions of The Syndicate, starring Ian McKellen, and Sweeney Todd, led by Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton, turning up in London?

According to the Daily Mail, another production from Chichester summer 2011 stable – Church’s own revival of Singin' in the Rain - is also likely to be London-bound, though not until the new year. It stars Scarlet Strallen, Daniel Crossley and Adam Cooper, who’s already committed to another stint in Irving Berlin’s White Christmas after Singin' In the Rain finishes at Chichester on 10 September until the end of January – thus the delay.

Cooper, who plays the role of Don Lockwood, immortalised by Gene Kelly in the 1952 MGM film, also headlined (and choreographed) the capital’s last major revival of Singin' in the Rain, which transferred from Leicester to Sadler’s Wells in 2004 revival.
