  • Miranda Sings With… – The winner of our Whatsonstage.com Miranda Sings competition was announced yesterday, with Dubliner Damien Kavanagh taking the honours with his hilarious entry “Amanda/Miranda – Womanizer”. Hats off to Damien (and the five runners-up), I’m sure Britney would be proud!

  • Witchcraft hysteria hits the Park. – With a hint of what is hopefully to come, this week sees the opening of the first production at the Open Air Theatre in Regents Park. Continuing his programming of non-Shakespeare texts, Timothy Sheader brings us the Arthur Miller classic, The Crucible. And what a perfect location to enjoy a night of witch hunting and classic drama, played out under the stars.

  • West End wins Eurovision – After the UK’s abysmal efforts in Eurovision proper, the cast of Dirty Dancing were thrilled to be crowned the champions of the 2010 West End Eurovision contest. It has to be said that everyone who took part put in a stellar performance but the breathtaking choreography clinched it for the overall winners, taking them to the top of the scoreboard and bringing the entire audience to their feet. Here’s the Dirty Dancing ident from the final, a fitting tribute to such worthy winners.

  • Tap your travels away – As Chichester Festival prepare to wow the public with their much anticipated revival, this clip of the last Broadway cast of 42nd Street caught my eye. Launching the 55th Annual Tony Awards, the cast tapped their way from their home theatre, across town on the subway and arriving in perfect sync onstage at the Radio City Music Hall to open the show; Olivier organisers take note! And we won’t have to wait to wait much longer to see who opens this year’s Tony award ceremony, as the show is just over a week away. Stay tuned to WOS for all the Tony news.

  • Fetchez la vache! – After a mere teaser trailer last month, we now have a sneaky insight into the Spamalot! tour rehearsal room. And as an added bonus, Monty Python legend Eric Idle was there to see the show’s first run through and offer his thoughts. Having opened this week at the New Wimbledon Theatre, the show continues to tour the UK into next year.
