Watch Maisie Smith perform “Somewhere That’s Green” ahead of Little Shop of Horrors revival

Maisie Smith sings “Somewhere That’s Green” in a newly released video from Little Shop of Horrors, ahead of the production’s opening at Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester on Friday 25 September.

Smith, known for EastEnders and Strictly Come Dancing, plays Audrey in the new revival. The puppeteers are Julia Frost, Christopher Dobson and Imogen Khan.

The video also features Marcus Ayton as the voice of Audrey II and musical supervisor Paul Schofield. The recording was made at Noatune Studios, with Ronan as engineer, while Adam Nightingale is the videographer.

Directed and choreographed by Tony and Olivier Award nominee Carrie-Anne Ingrouille, the production also stars Michael Starke as Mr Mushnik, Jed Berry as Seymour, Marcus Ayton as the voice of Audrey II and Benjamin Yates as Orin Scrivello, the Dentist. The cast also includes Kai Cameron-Jay, Ella Howlett, Rio Maye, Psalms-Nissi Myers-Reid, Joseph Peacock, Nathen Scott and Gabrielle Davina Smith.

With music by Alan Menken and book and lyrics by Howard Ashman, Little Shop of Horrors follows flower shop assistant Seymour, who discovers a strange plant that offers him a route out of Skid Row, but develops an increasingly dangerous appetite.

Set and costume design is by Morgan Large. Audrey II is brought to life through four specially commissioned puppets created by Robert Allsopp, whose work includes Doctor Who, X-Men, The Witcher and the Tin Man in Wicked: For Good.

The production is produced by Thomas Hopkins Productions and SAMS Entertainment, in association with Hope Mill Theatre. More than 30 performances in Manchester have already sold out.

The revival coincides with the 40th anniversary of the 1986 film. Following its Manchester run, it will transfer to Liverpool Playhouse from 3 December 2026 to 9 January 2027, with Jessie Elland taking over as Audrey.
