Tina – The Tina Turner Musical has extended its West End run and has announced plans for a new cast recording.

The piece, which runs at the Aldwych Theatre, first opened in April 2018. The piece will now extend its run until December 2019, with 200,000 tickets released for the musical on midday on 25 January.

Adrienne Warren and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, who play Tina and Ike Turner in the musical about Tina's life, will continue in their roles through until 13 April 2019. Casting from April 2019 is to be announced.

Directed by Phyllida Lloyd and written by Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins, the piece is choreographed by Anthony van Laast, with set and costume designs by Mark Thompson, musical supervision by Nicholas Skilbeck, lighting by Bruno Poet, sound by Nevin Steinberg, projection design by Jeff Sugg and orchestrations by Ethan Popp.

Producers have yet to confirm a release date for the cast album, but a first number from the recording has been unveiled – a version of "River Deep – Mountain High" sung by Adrienne Warren.

Turner said: "It is a privilege to have our show playing to full houses here in London night after night. I'm so looking forward to the release of our cast album, so we can share the music and also the way the songs tell my story. This was my biggest surprise in the making of the musical – I never realised my songs captured the life I was living.

"I'm turning 80 this year and it's a time for looking back. I've loved working with my producers, Phyllida, Katori, our creative team and of course this incredible cast led by Adrienne and Kobna. Together they found the love, and I am grateful."

The show recently announced plans to open on Broadway.
