Tina the Musical is to open on Broadway in autumn of 2019.

The show premiered in the West End in April 2018 and continues to play at the Aldwych Theatre. The most recent booking period was announced to go through to July 2019.

The piece is directed by Phyllida Lloyd and written by Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins. The musical tells the story of pop icon Tina Turner, from her roots in Tennessee to becoming the queen of rock and roll.

Choreography for the show is by Anthony van Laast, with set and costume designs by Mark Thompson, musical supervision, additional music and arrangements by Nicholas Skilbeck, lighting by Bruno Poet, sound by Nevin Steinberg, projection design by Jeff Sugg and orchestrations by Ethan Popp.

More details about the transfer – including casting, theatre and specific dates – are yet to be announced.

Turner said: "Bringing this musical to life on stage and working with this team has meant so much to me, I feel that it is in many ways a culmination of my career. London audiences have been and continue to be extraordinary. Now, the bright lights of Broadway are calling, and I'm very excited to share this beautiful show with New York audiences next year."

Songs included in the musical are "Proud Mary" and "Private Dancer". Adrienne Warren is currently playing Tina Turner in the West End production.
