The UK premiere of The SpongeBob Musical is underway, kicking off in Southampton before setting sail on an extensive UK and Ireland tour, including a summer season at London’s Southbank Centre (26 July to 26 August).

Recently we were treated to a live rendition of a medley from the hit musical – whose score boasts songs from such pop industry heavyweights as Sara Bareilles, John Legend, Panic! at the Disco, Cyndi Lauper and David Bowie to name just a few.

We also sat down with principal cast members Gareth Gates and Tom Read Wilson (who are sharing the role of Squidward Q Tentacles across the tour), as well as Divina De Campo (Sheldon J Plankton), Irfan Damani (Patrick Star) and Lewis Cornay (SpongeBob SquarePants) to find out more about the underwater caper.

The SpongeBob Musical is written by Kyle Jarrow and conceived by Tina Landau, with additional lyrics by Jonathan Coulton and additional music by Tom Kitt.

The UK premiere production is directed by Tara Overfield Wilkinson and features choreography by Fabian Aloise, designs by Steve Howell, musical supervision by Mark Crossland, musical direction by Marcus Carter-Adams, costumes by Sarah Mercade, lighting and video design by Ben Bull, sound by Ben Harrison, costume and wig supervision by Megan Rarity, associate choreography by Paris Green, and casting direction by Harry Blumenau.

The tour is scheduled to run through to 9 September 2023, with tickets for select venues on sale below.
