Last night, the West End celebrated the official opening night of Beetlejuice… after several years of patiently waiting by its devoted fan base.

The musical adaptation of the beloved 1988 Tim Burton film originally debuted in Washington, DC in 2018, ahead of a Broadway premiere the following year, and has now settled into a limited run at the Prince Edward Theatre.

WhatsOnStage was on hand to jump in the line and immortalise the day-o, chatting to principal cast members David Fynn (Beetlejuice), Hannah Nordberg (Lydia Deetz), David Hunter (Adam Maitland), Chelsea Halfpenny (Barbara Maitland), Aimie Atkinson (Delia Deetz), Alasdair Harvey (Charles Deetz). Chasity Crisp (Maxine Dean/Juno), and Irvine Iqbal (Maxie Dean).

The West End cast also includes WhatsOnStage Award nominee Tom Xander (alternate Beetlejuice), Richard Frame (Otho), Rachel Macdougall (Girl Scout) and Vanessa Aurora Sierra (Miss Argentina), and is completed by Jemma Alexander, Samuel BangsNatasha Cayabyab, Chris DraperHarley Emmitt, Catherine McCormick, Robbie McMillan, Kieran MellishElliott ParryJacob SmithAdam TaylorTyler Timmins and Issie Wilman.

Beetlejuice follows teenager Lydia, who encounters a pair of recently deceased homeowners and the ghost Beetlejuice after moving into a new house. It features a book by Scott Brown and Anthony King, with music and lyrics by Eddie Perfect.

The West End production is directed by Alex Timbers, with choreography by Connor Gallagher. The creative team also includes scenic designer David Korins, costume designer William Ivey Long, lighting designer Kenneth Posner, sound designer Peter Hylenski and projection designer Peter Nigrini, alongside specialists in puppetry, special effects, illusions, hair, wigs and make-up. Casting is by Harry Blumenau.
