Pride musical announces transfer to new venue

The new musical adaptation of Pride will transfer to the Bridge Theatre.

Based on the true story depicted in the 2014 film Pride, the musical is developed and directed by Matthew Warchus, who also directed the film, with a book and lyrics by Stephen Beresford, who wrote the screenplay.

Set during the 1984 miners’ strike, the story follows a group of lesbian and gay activists who form Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM), an alliance which sees them support a small mining community in South Wales.

The production, presented by P&P Productions in association with the National Theatre, Pathé, Calamity Films and David Binder Productions, will begin performances at the 900-seat venue on Thursday 12 November. Tickets go on sale on Wednesday 2 September, following sold-out runs at Cardiff’s Sherman Theatre and the National Theatre.

The musical features an original score by Christopher Nightingale, Josh Cohen and DJ Walde, drawing on protest anthems, pop, rock, disco and the Welsh choral tradition.

It received a glowing review from WhatsOnStage, with Sarah Crompton describing the musical as “impossible to resist.”

Casting and creative has also been announced for the transfer.

Pride previewed at the Sherman Theatre in Cardiff before opening at the National Theatre’s Dorfman Theatre in June. Its National Theatre run continues until 12 September 2026.

The Bridge Theatre transfer will mark the venue’s first production under new operator Trafalgar Entertainment.
