National Theatre issues casting call for ‘iconic musical’

The National Theatre has teased a tantalising major production for 2027 with a new casting call.

In a statement, the venue said today: ” Our 2027 season will be revealed this September, including details of a major musical production coming to the NT next year.

“All will be revealed soon – but right now, we’re on the lookout for performers with exceptional acting, dancing and singing skills for roles in an iconic musical. Online applications are open now, and we look to do auditions this autumn. Head to the link in comments to apply.”

The brief for the roles in question say applicants must be “available between beginning of September 2027 – end of March 2028” and be “brilliant singers and actors” with “a very high level of dance training/experience”, as well as “over the age of 18 by September 2027.” The casting call is available on the National Theatre’s social channels.

The casting team is currently seeking performers aged 16 to 25 to fill four featured roles across a range of vocal types, including Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano, and Baritone.

All candidates should possess high-level dance training, with a strong foundation in ballet and jazz, as well as experience with partnering work and lifts for select positions.

For three of the roles, exceptional Latin dance capability is required, with a particular interest in hearing from performers of Puerto Rican or wider Latin American heritage.

For the remaining male role, the team is especially eager to receive applications from performers of Polish, Italian, or Irish background.

Speculation as to which “iconic musical” this might be has been rampant for many months, with audiences excited to find out something’s coming soon. Expect full coverage of the National Theatre’s new season next month.
