Pride musical announces cast for Bridge Theatre transfer

Initial casting has been confirmed for the Bridge Theatre run of the hit musical Pride. 

Based on the true story depicted in the 2014 film Pride, the musical is developed and directed by Matthew Warchus, who also directed the film, with a book and lyrics by Stephen Beresford, who wrote the screenplay.

Set during the 1984 miners’ strike, the story follows a group of lesbian and gay activists who form Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM), an alliance which sees them support a small mining community in South Wales.

The transfer cast will include Samuel Barnett as Jonathan, Matthew Durkan as Mike, Gillian Elisa as Gwen, Chris Jenkins as Gethin, Darren Lawrence as Cliff, Kirsty Malpass as Hefina, Madeleine Morgan in the ensemble, Sarah Pugh as Siân, Caroline Sheen as Maureen, Courtney Stapleton as Steph and Matthew Woodyatt as Dai. Further casting is to be announced.

The creative team includes set and costume designer Bunny Christie, choreographer Lizzi Gee, orchestrators Christopher Nightingale and Tom Kelly, music supervisor Tom Kelly, additional orchestrations by Josh Cohen and DJ Walde, lighting designer Hugh Vanstone, sound designer Bobby Aitken, hair, wig and make-up design by Campbell Young Associates and casting director David Grindrod.

The executive producer is Nia Janis and the general manager is Playful Productions.
