Sunny Afternoon has announced it will extend at The Harold Pinter Theatre until 29 October, seeing the Olivier-Award winning show through to its second anniversary.
Directed by Edward Hall, Sunny Afternoon charts the iconic band The Kinks' rise to fame. The show features a book by Joe Penhall with music, lyrics and original story by Ray Davies.
Davies commented: "I am delighted that Sunny Afternoon is extending in the West End and starting the national tour, playing many of the same venues The Kinks played on the road. Every time I visit the West End show I see people discovering it for the first time with the performances going from strength to strength."
This summer will also mark the 50th anniversary of the release of The Kinks' single "Sunny Afternoon", which was released on 3 June 1966, the same month England won the football World Cup. To celebrate this anniversary, 50 top price tickets for every performance in July will be on sale for £19.66.
After premiering at Hampstead Theatre it transferred to the West End's Harold Pinter Theatre in October 2014.
The show features some of The Kinks' most well-known songs, including "You Really Got Me", "Waterloo Sunset" and "Lola". The West End cast currently includes Danny Horn as Ray Davies, Oliver Hoare as Dave Davies, Tom Whitelock as bassist Pete Quaife and Damien Walsh as drummer Mick Avory.
A UK tour of the show is set to open in the summer.
