Showstopper! The Improvised Musical’ ‘will return to the West End with a new residency at the Cambridge Theatre, home of Matilda the Musical”.
For those unfamiliar with the show, it is a fully-realized musical created live on the spot. The cast takes suggestions from the audience for the setting and musical styles and turns them into storylines, characters, and song and dance numbers. The audience also gets to name that night’s show, which is added to The Showstoppers’ archive of more than 1,200 shows that they have performed since the show’s inception.
The show’s artistic directors, Adam Meggido and Dylan Emery, have expressed their excitement at the move, saying “After a wonderful seven years at the Lyric, we are delighted to begin a new residency at the Cambridge Theatre. We can’t wait to make up dozens more brand-new spontaneous musicals right in the heart of the West End among all the shows that we know and love. Thanks for having us, LW Theatres!”
Showstopper! The Improvised Musical is the first ever long-form improv show to have a full West End run, and to be nominated and win an Olivier Award for Best Entertainment and Family in 2016.
