American Carolyn Kras’s nine-month placement has been funded by the Fulbright Program
Sell A Door Theatre Company have announced that American Carolyn Kras will be their new Playwright in Residence.
Kras has been awarded a Fulbright-Lusk Award to fund the placement, which will see her work with the London-based company for nine months from September 2015 to July 2016.
David Hutchinson, artistic director of Sell A Door, said: "We are thrilled to have Carolyn joining us in September as our first Playwright in Residence, supported by the prestigious Fulbright award.
"Carolyn is an emerging talent, whose work I have followed for a number of years, and to have her based with us in Greenwich for a year – developing not only her own craft, but also the skills of young writers in Greenwich as part of our Young Writers scheme – is so exciting for us. Carolyn will contribute something very special to the theatre sector in this country, I have no doubt about that."
During the placement Kras will work on a new play about the lives of King George III's daughters, exploring "parallels with contemporary sexual assault cover-ups".
She said: "I'm delighted to partner with Sell A Door Theatre Company. David Hutchinson is a great supporter of new work and fresh voices, and I look forward to connecting with his exceptional team and the London theatre community."
Sell A Door's revival of Alan Bennett's The History Boys is on a UK tour until July.
