Two-time Oscar winner Adrien Brody, WhatsOnStage and Olivier Award winner Rachel Zegler and Tony Award winner Ben Platt will star in Last Dance, a new film from Brazilian filmmaker Karim Aïnouz.

Platt will write original music for the film, with Zegler also set to perform original songs. The screenplay has been written by Emily Ziff Griffin, based on her 2021 autobiographical article “The Last Dance with My Dad” published in The New Yorker.

The film follows celebrated Broadway composer Elliot, played by Brody, who invites his daughter Emma, played by Zegler, on a gay cruise through the Caribbean in 1991.

While onboard, Emma begins a relationship with a crew member as the AIDS crisis increasingly affects those around them. The story follows the relationship between father and daughter as Elliot’s health declines. According to Zegler’s social media post, work on the film began in 2021.

Platt will also be making his London stage debut this summer in Midnight at the Never Get, while Zegler has an array of projects in the pipeline, including the film version of Octet and the Broadway transfer of the multi-award-winning Evita.
